1. How donations are processed

Donations are handled by Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor. Your card details go directly to Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We receive your name, email address, the amount, and which campaign you chose.

All amounts are in US dollars.

2. Tax deductibility and receipts

Grace & Grit is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You will receive an emailed acknowledgement for each gift. For any single gift of $250 or more, that acknowledgement serves as your written substantiation for IRS purposes and will state whether you received any goods or services in return.

Where you receive something in return — a shop item, for example — only the amount above the fair market value of that item is deductible.

We cannot give tax advice. Please consult your own advisor about your circumstances.

3. Designated gifts

You may direct a gift to a specific campaign, and we honour that intent. As required for a nonprofit to keep its tax-exempt status, our board retains final discretion over the use of all funds. If a campaign is fully funded, cancelled, or cannot proceed, we will apply your gift to a similar purpose consistent with our mission. If you would prefer a refund in that situation, contact us and we will arrange it.

4. Recurring donations

If you set up a recurring gift, it continues at the interval you chose until you cancel. You can cancel at any time by emailing us, and cancellation takes effect before the next scheduled charge as long as you tell us at least three business days beforehand.

5. Refunds on donations

Donations are gifts and are generally not refundable. That said, we would rather put things right than keep money given in error.

We will refund a donation in full if you contact us within 30 days and:

  • the amount was entered incorrectly, or you were charged twice;
  • the gift was unauthorized — for example someone used your card without permission;
  • a recurring gift continued after you asked us to cancel it;
  • you designated the gift to a campaign that did not proceed and you would rather have it back.

Requests outside 30 days are considered case by case, and we will treat you fairly. Email sharon@grace-grit.org with the date, amount, and the email address used. Approved refunds return to the original payment method, usually within 5–10 business days.

If a refund is issued, any tax acknowledgement for that gift no longer applies, and we will confirm that in writing.

6. Shop orders, shipping and returns

Shop items are made to order and shipped by third-party providers. Some items are sold through our Etsy storefront, where Etsy's policies govern the purchase and refunds are requested through Etsy.

Shipping

Because items are printed on demand, allow production time before dispatch. Delivery estimates are provided at checkout and are estimates, not guarantees. We are not responsible for carrier delays, or for customs charges on international orders, which are your responsibility.

Damaged, defective, or wrong items

Contact us within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a photograph, and we will replace the item or refund it in full, including shipping. You will not need to return a damaged item.

Change of mind

Made-to-order items cannot be restocked, so we cannot generally accept returns simply for change of mind. If you ordered the wrong size, contact us within 30 days and we will do what we reasonably can.

Lost orders

If tracking shows an order has not arrived within 30 days of dispatch, tell us and we will replace or refund it.

7. Trip payments

Payments toward trip participation — deposits, trip fees, and fundraising minimums — are not covered by this policy. They are governed by the trip agreement you sign, which sets out its own payment schedule, cancellation terms, and refund conditions. Please read it before committing.

Trip payments and charitable donations are treated differently for tax purposes. Amounts paid for your own travel are generally not tax-deductible.

8. Errors and disputed charges

If you see a charge you do not recognize, please contact us before disputing it with your bank. We can usually resolve it faster, and a chargeback costs the ministry additional fees on top of the amount.
